Michelle Herrera

Student Academic Advisor

Office Hours

Michelle Herrera (she/her) is the Academic Advisor for the Interdisciplinary Studies Field (ISF) program and advises currently registered intended and declared students in the major. She offers remote advising via scheduled Zoom appointments and email, and in-person advising via scheduled appointments and drop-in counseling. Please see below for advising information and links to schedule both remote and on-campus advising appointments.

Scheduled appointments are for currently-registered UC Berkeley students only. Those who have not been admitted to UC Berkeley and are in the process of applying to the university should direct their questions about admission to the university to the Admissions OfficeAny specific questions about the ISF major can be emailed to Michelle at isf@berkeley.edu.

Newly admitted students can schedule an ISF advising appointment beginning July 6th, after Golden Bear Advising (GBA) ends.

Summer advising schedule: May 26-August 14

When do I meet with an L&S Advisor vs. with the ISF Academic Advisor?

Students should meet with an L&S Advisor when they have questions related to: long-term course planning, overall graduation check, degree requirements outside of ISF (breadth, residency, minimum 120 units, etc.), Reduced Course Loads, unit ceiling, extra semesters, changing EGT, academic difficulty, major and minor exploration.

Students should connect with the ISF Academic Advisor when they have questions about the ISF major declaration process, ISF course offerings, checking ISF major progress, to address corrections on their Academic Progress Report for the ISF major requirements, clarification on ISF major requirements and policies, obtain signatures on forms required by L&S, and for class planning 1-2 semesters in advance.

Scheduled Appointments

Students may schedule a 25 minute, one-on-one appointment with Michelle to discuss topics such as: the ISF major declaration process, Course of Study planning or suggestions, to check their ISF major progress, or to do an ISF graduation check. Appointments are not necessary to obtain signatures on forms– please email these to isf@berkeley.edu and expect at least two business days for a reply.

Students have the option for both Zoom and in-person appointments. Zoom appointments are available Monday-Friday and in-person appointments are available 2-3 days a week; specific days may vary. Please visit the following webpage to schedule an appointment: https://calendly.com/michellerh. Note that advising appointments are not on Berkeley Time; they begin on the hour. If you are more than 5 minutes late to your appointment, you will be marked as a “No-Show” and the appointment will be cancelled. Multiple no-shows in one semester may result in cancellation of future appointments. If you know you will be more than 5 minutes late to your scheduled appointment, consider rescheduling ahead of time.
