As an ISF major, Sean was able to take his love for music and combine it with his passion for business and law in a major that reflected his interests and gave him a significant advantage during his job search. Sean says the multidimensional nature of the music industry complements the ISF major extremely well. It allowed him to extract information gleaned from business, law, economics, and sociology courses to write a thesis on the significant impacts of music streaming on the music industry, an area of research which has been especially lacking as the model grows in popularity. For his research, he was able to gain advice and interviews with people from Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Amazon Music, and the Boston Consulting Group. In addition, he leveraged connections to speak with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Interscope Geffen A&M Records executives who all hoped more students would spend their time in college following majors and courses of study like his. Being an ISF major made his days at Berkeley extremely worthwhile and made employers especially intrigued with his unique, and concentrated, course of study. When Sean wasnt studying, he spent his days with the Cal Running Club and the Berkeley Investment Group (BIG) on campus. After graduation in Spring 2019, Sean will be working in the music industry, specifically a large Los Angeles-based record label, in their artist management and marketing department. Previously, Sean worked at MusicTech startups, one was partnered with music streaming giant Spotify, advancing and developing their relationships with artists and record labels.
